Open day success
Tuesday, July 18th, 2017
Lankelma’s open day on 14 July gave attendees the opportunity to get ‘up close and personal’ with the latest CPT techniques.
Alongside short technical presentations, visitors saw some of Lankelma’s CPT fleet in action, with live demonstrations of techniques, including the seismic cone, the magcone and the videocone, given throughout the day.
The day was opened by Lankelma Managing Director Eric Zon, who gave a potted history of the company, before Roi Santos, Head of Geoconsultancy at sister company Gardline Geosurvey, discussed the geotechnical challenges posed by large offshore windfarm projects.
He was followed by guest presenter Graham Church, Technical Lead Ground Investigations, HS2, who gave an update on the progress of geotechnical investigations on the mega-project, and Lankelma Technical Manager Joe Hobbs, who explained the latest advances in interpreting CPT data.
Following an extended lunch for demonstrations and networking, keynote speaker Professor Richard Jardine from Imperial College, London, presented an abridged version of his 2016 Rankine Lecture on geotechnics and energy.
Eric Zon said: “The last couple of years have been particularly exciting for us and it was great to have the opportunity to share the latest developments with our partners and clients. I was delighted with the level of engagement throughout the day, with our guests asking lots of questions of our speakers and CPT operatives and engineers. This was the first open day we had organised in eight years but we will certainly won’t be waiting that long to run another one – watch this space!
“If you can’t wait for the next open day, we are always happy to visit your offices to give a lunchtime seminar tailored to your specific needs and experience – covering everything from CPT first principles to specific applications such as railways and contaminated land.”
