CPT SERVICES FOR THE RAIL INDUSTRY:

Brian Georgious, Lankelma's Railway Manager, successfully introduced CPT based investigations using rail mounted plant at two sites in the United Kingdom in February.

Three CPT rigs consisting of one crawler rig, one trailer rig; and one set of stand alone rams, were utilised on the multi possessioned contracts. Lankelma provided on site engineers at both locations to provide instant interpretation to ensure efficient investigation.

Lankelma successfully completed 11 tests in one shift providing over 100m of testing, out of a total contract requirement of 150 tests. Our trailer rig successfully completed CPTs and will undertake near undisturbed open tube Mostap sampling. This was an urgent requirement on a track in North Yorkshire. This testing was carried out in conjunction with three other contractors on a piggy-back possession of the contract.

Lankelma is also now a rail approved supplier under the Link Up Scheme.

TRACK TRUCK

The Track Truck unit is readily suited for work in a rail environment. It has a bearing capacity of 40KPa and can access difficult areas. Recent projects include the detection of solution features by a combined geophysical and CPT survey

MINICRAWLER

The dimension of the minicrawler makes it ideal for working in the cess or 4ft areas. The unit can anchor its self to the ground to provide reaction. This system also comes with the facility to tilt its rams to work on embankments with up to 300 slopes

DYNAMIC PROBING

In areas inaccessible by CPT equipment hand portable dynamic probing and window sampling rigs can be used on site. These enable the assessment of variability of the soil and also allow the installation of piezometers, monitoring wells and the taking of lined samples for contaminated ground

All of Lankelma’s field staff are PTS trained and experienced in working in a a railway environment Due to the nature of the work being performed within possessions we are able to run night shift and weekend operations

SLOPE CPT'S

Because of its very small overall dimensions, particularly the width of 1.20m, and its great maneuverability, the vehicle is very suitable for working in inaccessible places. The maximum penetration force is 200kN and the dead weight about 3.5 tonnes. If required reaction force can be increased by using screw anchors in the soil or by applying extra ballast. The anchors can be screwed in hydraulically from the soil penetration rig.

The rig is hinged onto the caterpillar tractor and therefore can be used in a vertical position even when the vehicle is on a slope. Depending on the soil conditions the steepest slope on which the vehicle can be used is 30 degrees to 40 degrees. The vehicle is also fitted with a winch which can be used to assist its movement and positioning on steeper slopes.
