Sonic drill rig strengthens Lankelma’s nearshore marine services

Sonic drill rig strengthens Lankelma’s nearshore marine services

8th November 2019

Our new  CompactRotoSonic XL-Duo rig, enables us to carry out both sonic drilling or Geobor-S drilling from Sandpiper, our C-5 jack-up platform, strengthening our nearshore marine services capability. The has a dual drill head, enabling it to switch between both techniques. Sonic drilling uses rotation and vibrations to liquefy a narrow zone of soil and cuttings around […]

The Seismic Moveout method: Making the impossible, possible

The Seismic Moveout method: Making the impossible, possible

30th October 2019

The Seismic Moveout method is a more accurate alternative to conventional downhole seismic testing, enabling elastic soil parameters at shallow depths (between ground level and 4m) to be derived, which has previously been very challenging and, in some cases, impossible. Joe Hobbs, Lankelma Technical Manager Small strain shear modulus is essential to understand the static […]

Nearshore wireline CPT shows its colours

Nearshore wireline CPT shows its colours

25th September 2019

Wireline cone penetration testing is a viable alternative to traditional top-push techniques for nearshore projects. Kim Hodgson, Lankelma Nearshore Projects Manager. While wireline downhole Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) systems have proved popular for deep water investigations, when it comes to nearshore projects, contractors tend to opt for land-based top-push CPT rigs deployed on jack-up platforms […]

Tackling nearshore challenges

Tackling nearshore challenges

3rd September 2019

Eric Zon, Lankelma Managing Director. Meeting the challenges of nearshore geotechnical investigations requires specialist input, not simply a transfer of land-based techniques to the marine environment. Like any engineering project, those being built in nearshore environments (in water depths of less than 20m) – such as ports, pipelines, cables and coastal defences – rely on […]

CPT: The ideal solution for rail ground investigations

CPT: The ideal solution for rail ground investigations

20th August 2019

Chris Dimelow, Lankelma General Manager. Ground investigations on the railway are often challenging, with tight timescales – mainly during night-time and weekend possessions – on sites with difficult access and tight working space. Then there is the challenge of data quality and timely access to results. In the past, most rail investigations have relied upon […]

What is cone penetration testing?

What is cone penetration testing?

6th August 2019

Joe Hobbs, Lankelma Technical Manager. The cone penetration test (CPT) involves pushing a cone penetrometer – the cone – on the end of a series of rods, vertically into the ground at a constant rate of 20mm per second, to depths of up to 100m. The forces on the cone and the friction sleeve above […]
