22m boom

This project saw UK14 mounted on a long reach excavator from specialist plant hirer, Land and Water. The excavator’s 22m boom greatly extended the operation envelope of the CPT unit and saved the ultimate client, Newcastle City Council, a considerable sum by eliminating the need to hire scaffolding or jack-up platforms.

St Anthony's tar plant

The site was the quay where St Anthony's tar plant (one of only two tar distilleries on Tyneside) once stood. It was closed in 1978.

Testing

Testing was required at the base of the sloping quay wall (lhs image) and the vertical quay wall (rhs image). 6 CPTs were carried out from ground level to depths between 15m below mud line, refusal or as instructed by the client on site. Works were completed to time and budget.
