As part of a multi million pound redevelopment project at the North West Kent College, Lankelma provided a detailed soil stratigraphy for client BAM Ritchies. Tests refusing between 14 and 18m 3 trial locations were tested, all reaching the required depth of 22m. However, during the first week on site, some of the tests (on part of the site not probed during the trial) were refusing in the gravels between 14m and 18m. The mobilisation of Lankelma Green Energy’s 31 tonne rig (UK17) proved to be the solution for penetrating these gravels. UK17 worked alongside UK1, a standard 20 tonne truck, completing 522 tests in 68 rig days. Daily test results enable grouting ahead of schedule Bam Ritchies received site data on a daily basis, allowing them to keep ahead of schedule with their grouting of the site (a former chalk mine area) and it allowed ‘soft’ areas to be investigated further while the rigs were still on site. Following confirmation of the ‘soft’ areas BAM Ritchies could undertake further grouting to strengthen the ground. Work was completed 2 days ahead of schedule even with a snow day in December.
