10mph speed limit

Deployment of UK15, Lankelma's track truck to Medge Hall provided soil investigation and data to help consulting engineers move nearer to completing designs for a major line improvement near Doncaster.  The site on the route to Scunthorpe needs work to resolve drainage issues which have been limiting trains to a 10mph speed limit due to track instability for a considerable time.

Visits 0ver 3 years

Lankelma has made a number of visits to the site in the past three years producing soil profile, obtaining
MOSTAP samples and design data for the reconstruction of a 0.5km section of the route.

The 1m length MOSTAP sample depths ranged from ground level to 5.5m below ground level; whilst CPTs were carried out down to depths of 15.8m.  Site works in the 4-foot were undertaken using UK12, the road rail truck, whilst UK15 undertook testing in the soft fields adjacent to the embankment.

11 weeks closure

The proposed remediation is a significant civil engineering project and the piling will close the line for some 11 weeks during the summer of 2009.  Lankelma were supervised on site in April 2009 by consulting engineers Grontmij.
