Outfall pipe at Sefton Beach
Lankelma spent the morning at Crosby Beach, Sefton - Sefton Borough Council required CPTs to be carried out on the intertidal area and on the foreland. Geotechnical information gained will be used in the planning of an outfall pipe.
With low tide at 8.30am, operators were on the beach at 4am, work started at 6am and was completed by 9am. During this time Lankelma performed 3 more intertidal CPTs than were originally asked for. All 7 intertidal and foreland tests were down to refusal, with depths ranging from 5.5m to 13.86m.
Iron sculptures
The most common difficulty with beach SIs is avoiding tourists whilst moving from site to site. On this occasion the tourists were absent, replaced by a tribe of iron men. Anthony Gormley’s art installation, ‘Another place’, is made up of 100 cast iron sculptures moulded from the artist’s own body. Despite local controversy, Crosby Beach is now its permanent home.
